Castlerigg Stone Circle Cumbria
Welcome to the EDGE Guide to the stone circles of Cumbria.
Castlerigg Stone Circle
Nearest Town: Keswick.
Location: NY 291236, Sheet 90.
The most visited of the Cumbrian Stone Circles, Castlerigg is just east of Keswick, in the care of the National Trust and open to the public.
The setting is impressive, surrounded by the fells of Skiddaw and Saddleback to its north and Castlerigg Fell, High Rigg and Clough Head to its south.
104ft/32m at its widest Castlerigg is not all that large but it is well preserved. It is also noteworthy in having a number of stones set in a rectangle within the Circle. The stones themselves are impressive many reaching 6ft/2m in height.
