The largest secondhand bookshop in the north of England, Bookcase is also
a
publisher of books of local interest. The shop (on the left), stretching over
the two shops on
the left was once the HQ of Carlisle State Management Scheme - an attempt
by the Government
during WW1 to curtail excessive drinking at nearby Gretna explosives factory.
