Buttermere in the Lake District

Welcome to the EDGE Guide to Buttermere lake in Cumbria.

Cockermouth NW on the B5289, 9mls/15km.
Keswick NE on the B5289, 11mls/18km.

Small but perfectly formed, this is an extremely picturesque corner of the Lake District locked away behind the Honister Pass south of Keswick and the magnificent Borrowdale. Buttermere has the added attribute of being less than half a mile from Crummock Water, equally beautiful but larger. Sandwiched between the two in this stunning valley is the tiny hamlet of Buttermere where many people stop for refreshment.

Walks:

You can walk all the way round the lake in about an hour enjoying the tremendous views which you will carry with you for the rest of your life.
